Help Shape the Future of Rockville’s Streets and Transportation

How should Rockville’s streets work as our City grows? How do we make it safer and easier to walk, bike, drive, and use transit? When new development happens, how should we measure its impact on traffic and transportation?

Rockville is currently reviewing proposed changes to two important sets of rules that help answer those questions: the City’s Road Code and Comprehensive Transportation Review. These rules address how Rockville's streets and intersections are designed, how Rockville's sidewalks and bike facilities are built, how development impacts are evaluated, and what improvements may be required when new projects move forward.

I strongly believe Rockville needs transportation policies that reflect both the City we are today and the City we want to become.

As we encourage responsible growth and economic development, our transportation infrastructure has to keep pace. At the same time, Rockville's streets need to work for everyone: drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, seniors, children and people with disabilities.

Safety has to be part of that conversation too. Better-designed streets, safer intersections, accessible sidewalks and stronger pedestrian and bicycle connections can make a real difference in our neighborhoods. However, before these policies are finalized, we want to make sure everyone has a chance to understand what is being proposed and weigh in.

Thus, Rockville is holding a virtual community information session on Monday, August 31, from 7 to 9 p.m. City staff and consultants will explain the proposed changes and answer questions from the community.
